Director Brian Kirk and DoP Christopher Ross BSC return to The Look for this epic 10 part action thriller ‘Day of the Jackal’.

A hugely complex VFX series, entrusted to us by the team at Carnival Films and Sky.  The team at The Look carried out the full picture post production from rushes backup, conform, grade, finishing (Flame) and worldwide deliverables in UHD Dolby Vision HDR & SDR.

Supervising Colourist Thomas Urbye “When we first began discussing the look of the show it was immediately obvious that this was going to be a series like no other. An all-action big budget spy thriller series does not come along every day.  Our remit was to enhance and augment every shot in Day of the Jackal and its incredible set pieces, this involved adding cinematic contrast and creating specific colour palettes for numerous international locations.  We worked with Chris shaping shots and scenes, actor’s faces, precision digital grain and enhancing over 1400 visual effects shots.  This included screen composite enhancements, explosion glows, advanced contrast sharpening and precise integration of vfx with supplied mattes. We also executed sky replacements, digital flares, inserted intricate window details, and simulated realistic camera shake and flicker in car scenes shot in virtual production. These techniques added depth, atmosphere, and authenticity to key sequences, further enhancing the series’ visual impact.”

Brian Kirk comments: “THE LOOK is an outstanding experience and a lot of fun! Senior Colourist Thomas Urbye has an artist’s eye and the technical skillset of a master craftsman. He manipulates colour and light with confidence and sensitivity, always in the service of story. He is bold and subtle in equal measure with a wonderful awareness of each individual frame and how they all add up aesthetically, emotionally and tonally. He is equally comfortable taking close direction or working independently, whether adding to or refining the existing vision of the film-makers.”
