Summer has come and gone, but The Look has been busy on a number of high profile projects, recently we seem to be handling a lot more commercials and promos shot with the RED camera and lead the way in this 'data' capture field - with R3D import directly into our grading suite we can turn around these jobs to a very high standard and extremely quickly.
In March The Look's MD Thomas Urbye was asked by Quantel to talk about the advanced RED infrastructure here at The Look, watch it here
This is a chance to compare for yourself the difference between the various cameras out there, note the camera type at the bottom right of the movie.

The Look announces expansion in Broadcast magazine here
September 2008: The Look has installed Quantel's Genetic Engineering architecture. This includes the installation of a Quantel MAX system to compliment our eQ grading & finishing suite. Having recently doubled our online HD disk storage to 18 hours, this new system will allow conforming, editorial work and play-outs to be done simultaneously, without interruption to our grading suite from the shared HD disks. Projects, as they are being conformed on the MAX system, are instantly accessible to the eQ suite, both systems can also conform or play-out a project simultaneously, halving the time clients have to wait to start or complete their projects. Thomas Urbye MD of The Look comments "This marks the completion of phase two of our on-going expansion plan here at The Look. Having just completed 'Dead Set' and with a number of high profile long-form projects starting imminently it was the right time for us to commit to this expansion. Our clients are going to see a marked improvement to conforming and play-out times, offering a workflow which in our opinion is untouched in this market". This unique installation of Quantel's new Genetic Engineering technology at The Look will allow access to clips from either suite, no media moves, no media copies are made and all the project history will remain live.
Amsterdam September 2008: The Look's Company Director Thomas Urbye returns for a second year running to give a frank presentation to the delegates of the International Broadcast Conference about the current state of the post production market, its future, and delivering the highest possible service to clients using technology with experience.
Summer 2008 marks the sharp increase of high quality video content for the web. Over the last three months we have worked with major agencies and production companies such as Publicis, Mother, Dare Digital, Agency Republic, TribalDDB and Duke to name but a few. The Look has been able to meet the requirements of major clients such as Mercedes, HP, Barclays & Guiness to deliver an interative experience at a resolution higher than standard television transmission. We are able to do this because of our flexibility and our focus on a data centric facility. The Look leads the way for delivering beautifully graded HD content for transmission, cinema and the web.
May 2008: Company Director Thomas Urbye was invited by the British Society of Cinematographers to give a presentation to their members and other invited delegates on current and future trends in the production and post production areas, focusing on HD acquisition for delivering to cinema right through to the web.
During 2008, The Look has been building a reputation as the leading Soho facility at posting projects shot on the RED camera. Most recently, we have finished a commercial for Mercedes. A complex edit was kept live throughout the grade and online, with the commercial finished in full HD, read more about the project here
We are offering screenings to producers, directors & DPs of our camera comparison reel for those interested in shooting with the RED camera, or any other HD format. We have a full high definition reel which features 35mm, 16mm, D20, Genesis, RED, HDcam, Varicam and the Phantom high speed camera, it is proving extremely useful for anyone interested in the film vs. HD debate for commercials, features or drama productions.
During Spring 2008 we worked with a number of major clients Mother & Draftfcb on campaigns for major worldwide brands. We also worked with film distributor Pathe to deliver graded trailers for their Cannes screening. On the broadcast side, in May we completed the grade on a major ITV1 60min documentary which aired on June 12th from production company Walker George.
The big news of July was our Sony HD F23 camera day followed by our launch party, both taking place on the 26th. Clients and friends from all areas of the industry joined us to celebrate our launch.
